Greetings fellow CPCU's!
It has been since January that I did a President's message. As this is my second term, I figured less is more and moved to a quarterly message rather than monthly.
The first quarter of 2017 has sped by at lightning speed. We had our planning meeting in January and a board meeting in March. We are also moving our board meetings to EVERY OTHER MONTH. Still the first Wednesday of that month with our next meeting being Wednesday, 5-3-17 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We will continue to meet at the Rio Vista Conference Center Room on the lower level at 8885 Rio San Diego Drive. A reminder that these are OPEN board meetings and we encourage and welcome any CPCU or CPCU candidates to attend and contribute to the future direction of the chapter.
On the topic of the future direction of our chapter, many of you responded to the survey that we sent out earlier this year. We very much appreciate your input. Here is a high level summary of the results of that survey:
- Every other month meetings are preferred by majority
- Bringing value to the meetings was a common theme with Education (with or without CE) being preferred followed closely by our Good Works events and interactive meetings (such as the Ethics Game). Networking ONLY meetings have little value
- Most prefer lunch time meetings and location was not a key factor in attendance
- For our membership appreciation event in June, a brewery event or harbor cruise were top on the list followed closely by a Padres game
- Some volunteered to help with committees
The board will focus on bringing value to our members in all meetings. We will also do a survey at the end of 2017 to have results prior to our planning meeting for 2018. This year we are focusing on quality quarterly events.
On 3-22-17, we held our Ethics Game meeting at Zenith. This is the second year we have offered this interactive meeting setting and once again it was an overall success. (see this attachment with photos for a summary of this event).
Our 2nd quarter meeting will be our membership appreciation event and we are working on finalizing that soon. We are attempting to add a "risk management" talk/tour to the networking aspect of either a brewery event, a harbor cruise or a Padres event. Look for more on that early next month.
A reminder that The Institutes CPCU Society's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program ended on 12-31-16 and has been replaced by The Institutes Continuing Education (CE) for CPCU's program. This new program provides an easier, more streamlined user experience for CPCUs who seek continual professional development. Many of our chapter events will provide this CE and we take care of reporting it for you after the event! Learn more about how you can begin participating in The Institutes CE for CPCUs program.
Be sure to check out all of your member benefits at: https://www.cpcusociety.org/membership/benefits.
Hope to see you at an upcoming board or membership meeting/event!
