Happy start to Q3 2017. When you measure time in quarters – it seems to fly by! I hope all of you had a productive and successful first half of 2017.
Board Secretary, Janice Romero and I were able to attend a regional leadership meeting in Las Vegas in May. It is always motivating and inspiring to gather with fellow CPCU chapter leaders and share ideas. One of many things discussed at this regional meeting was LEADERSHIP. If you are a CPCU and are looking to advance in your career but are struggling getting the leadership experience you need for that advancement, consider the low risk leadership experience you will gain by serving on your local San Diego chapter board of directors. You will have the opportunity to work behind the scenes and/or step up to greater leadership exposure as an officer. You will network with an outstanding group of people and have fun in the process. Please let me know if you’d like to volunteer – our board meetings have gone to every other month and vary in time and place so just shoot me an email at email@example.com and I will add you to our distribution list for meeting notifications.
We are preparing for our upcoming Lunch and Learn on 8-2-17 at Zenith Insurance 7676 Hazard Center Drive Suite 1300 (13th Floor Training Room), from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. This course is approved by the CA Department of Insurance for 1 hour of Continuing Education credit for agent-broker and adjuster licensees and will also qualify for CPCU CE Credit. We hope to see you there.
Our Annual All Industry Day will be October 24th where we celebrate and install our new designees for 2017 – a total of 19 for our chapter! Our keynote lunch speaker will be Hank Haldeman, former President of NAPSLO. We will also provide a 2 hour morning CE course. Please watch for your invitation to this premier industry event.
We are working again this year with Promises to Kids and hope to kick off our Season of Giving at All Industry Day as well as provide an opportunity to not only contribute money but also an event that will allow our members to give of their time as well. It will culminate with our annual Good Works luncheon in December.
Lastly, I would like to congratulate the IBA San Diego Insurance Woman of the Year, Tammy Carlson, CPCU. Tammy was nominated by the San Diego CPCU Chapter for this award without her knowledge and thanks to her outstanding contributions to our industry and our community, she was the winner. It was so very rewarding to honor one of our outstanding members and do it as a surprise to her! Congratulations Tammy!!
I wish you all continued success and hope to see you at an upcoming chapter board meeting or chapter event. Get involved – it works.
Jari Sutton, CPCU, ARM, CIC
2016/2017 San Diego CPCU Chapter President
